American Idol Audition Process

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

When to Line Up for Auditions: It is anticipated that auditions will start no later than 8:00 a.m. on the audition day in each city. Even if you are in line before 8:00 a.m., producer cannot guarantee that you will be seen for an audition. Some venues may prevent people from lining up before 5:00 a.m., so you must continue to check our website at www.americanidol.com DAILY for the most up-to-date audition schedule and information. ALL INFORMATION CONCERNING THE AUDITIONS IS TENTATIVE AT THIS TIME. Audition cities, dates and/or times may change. If the past seven seasons are any indication, we are expecting a huge turnout in each city. You should therefore plan on arriving as early as allowed at your audition venue. Keep in mind that there is no guarantee that you will be seen for an audition regardless of whether or not you have a wristband and/or seat ticket. THERE WILL BE NO OVERNIGHT CAMPING INSIDE OR OUTSIDE ANY OF THE VENUES.

What to Bring to the Auditions:

  • Wristband and Seat Ticket: You must NOT remove the wristband issued to you on registration day. You must bring the wristband and seat ticket with you to the audition.
  • Identification: Bring the same two forms of identification that you brought with you to the registration day (for example, a birth certificate and driver’s license or a birth certificate and a passport or a birth certificate and a school ID card).
  • Proof of Citizenship/Residency: If your birth certificate was not issued in the United States, you must bring proof of citizenship and/or permanent U.S. residency.

You should come to the venue and register during designated times on either of the two registration days prior to the audition day. It may also be possible to register EARLY on the morning of the audition day; however, if you wait until the audition day to register, you will be one of the last people to register and we may run out of space and/or time to accommodate you. You should therefore register as early as possible on one of the two designated registration days for your city. THERE WILL BE NO OVERNIGHT CAMPING ALLOWED INSIDE OR OUTSIDE ANY OF THE VENUES. All information concerning registration and audition locations, dates and times is tentative at this time. Continue to check our website DAILY at www.americanidol.com for the most up-to-date registration and audition schedule and information.

After showing proper ID, you will be given a wristband and a seat ticket (provided there are still some available for that venue). You will be allowed to have one (1) person accompany you to the audition; however, THAT PERSON MUST ALSO BE PRESENT WITH YOU DURING REGISTRATION SO THAT WE CAN ISSUE THEM A SEAT TICKET AND WRISTBAND. NO CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OF AGE WILL BE ALLOWED AT THE AUDITION VENUES.

Contestants Under 18 Years of Age: If you will be under 18 years of age on the day you register and/or audition, your parent and/or legal guardian MUST accompany you to the registration and audition. YOUR APPOINTED GUARDIAN MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OF AGE AND MUST ACCOMPANY YOU TO THE VENUE FOR THE REGISTRATION AND AUDITION DAYS. In order to appoint a guardian, your parent or legal guardian must complete, sign and have NOTARIZED the attached Guardian and Medical Authorization for Minors form. Season 8 Auditions in Utah

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

For the first time in its seven-year history, this summer “American Idol” will visit my hometown, Salt Lake City, Utah, to audition contestants for next season’s show. The show’s producer, Nigel Lythgoe, told Utah Fox affiliate KSTU Channel 13 that he was impressed with the level of talent in Utah. His other Fox reality show, “So You Think You Can Dance,” stopped in Salt Lake City last winter for this upcoming season, and it’s rumored that a number of Utahns were picked for the next round of auditions in Las Vegas. “He said they had so many great singers and dancers there that they will be stopping there [for "Idol"],” a Fox spokeswoman said Tuesday.
